The Case for Coffee

I've been an avid coffee drinker since I was 15. I love everything about it. The ritual, the smell.... But recently I've been hearing a lot of people say they're trying to quit coffee. Why?

According to Mayo Clinic, research has shown the high levels of caffeine in coffee can lead to increased anxiety and mild elevation in cholesterol levels.

On the other hand, an article published by Harvard Medical School describes research that supports evidence that coffee can reduce Type II diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, Parkinson's Disease, uterine and liver cancer, gout and cirrhosis.

Additionally, in 2016, coffee was officially lifted from the list of possible carcinogenic foods.

Coffee can help your body burn fat by increasing metabolic rates
Lowers risk of fatty liver
Contains vitamins B2, B3, B5, magnesium and potassium

So should you drink it?

If you already do, there's no real reason why you should force yourself to stop. Just keep it minimal (unlike myself.... I should cut back).

-Keep it to a cup per day

-Avoid sugary additives that can effect your health in other ways

-Don't drink it too hot to avoid damage to your esophagus

-Cut back if you're experiencing anxiety or jittery feelings

My favorite coffee additions:

-D-mannose powder (for urinary health, especially if you're prone to UTI's)
